James Robert (JR) Bunda
Concordia University Irvine
Aloha! My name is JR Bunda. I am a counseling intern at the tail end of earning a master’s degree in Counseling. Studying under world-renowned author of over 30 books and New York Times best-selling Boundaries series, Dr. John Townsend, my coursework and training in the Townsend Competence & Character Growth Model has provided me with experience to provide clients with symptom reduction and higher levels of relationship and functioning in the world. In addition, I have received the Gottman Method: Level 1 Training Certification and am currently also interning with a Medically Assisted Treatment facility for substance addictions.
Integrated with the Christian faith and major counseling theories widely used in the counseling profession such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Gestalt & Existential Therapy, Positive Psychology, Family Systems, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Experiential/Emotion Focused Therapy, the Townsend Model is an updated psychodynamic approach I seek to implement on meeting your individual needs and providing a deeper, transformative therapeutic experience that goes beyond just coping with the symptom.
Raised in Wahiawa, Oahu, I grew up with two passions in life: helping people and playing baseball. The journey of becoming a professional baseball player had its peaks and valleys throughout that included dealing with failure, rejection, relationship struggles, a divine interruption, and with all praise to God, redemption. Now a former professional baseball player, I am passionate and with full capacity to walk alongside others experiencing personal and relational difficulties, and intense traumas in their life.
